Thank you!

Another year has passed; another Soapfest has come and gone. In the face of adversity with cancelled shows, rough economic times, and last minute actor cancellations we all pulled together to produce another successful charity event.

Each year we thank over 100 individuals and organizations who donate to this wonderful cause – whether it be their talent, time, money, food, gift certificates, housing, vehicles, etc. This event really could not happen without the generosity we receive over the months leading up to the event. All of us at Soapfest feel very, very privileged to be a part of a community that pulls together as the Soapfest cogs, to make this wheel turn. We want you to know that your contribution really has made a significant difference and has been wholeheartedly appreciated.

We had 15 actors who donated their time. They flew in from New York and LA and added so much to this weekend. We had 50 volunteers who came from England to Illinois to Idaho to right here on Marco Island. We had local (and not so local) significant financial donations. We had donations from so many wonderful restaurants on the Island. We had local businesses and individuals donate gift certificates and various other auction items. Every corner we turned where there was a “no”, it seemed to be matched by a big hearted “yes”. It has not been easy but the outcome has been well worth the hard work – a fun event with lots of fine memories culminating in local children benefiting. Whether you’re into the Soaps or not you have supported a very, very worthwhile cause – on behalf of the children – we Thank You.

The events kicked off on Saturday morning where each actor was paired with a local “special needs” child. Each of them painted a canvas or two that were later auctioned off to fans at our Night of Stars event at the Old Marco Inn and on the Sunday cruise aboard the Marco Island Princess. These paintings raised thousands; one in particular was sold for $3000. At the Bartender Bash at Martini’s Upstairs, on Saturday evening, actors got behind the bar to serve up drinks and boogie down with their fans. The weekend ended with a very special Play Reading at the Rose History Auditorium followed by a private reception with the actors. What a perfect ending to a fun filled weekend.

There were many fabulous memories, a personal favorite was Austin Peck pausing in the middle of the auction on the cruise to announce to everyone that he had found out where Santa Claus lived during his “off” months – right here on Marco Island. The gentleman with only a green towel on, with the white hair, beard and a big smile, turned and preceded to give us a big Ho,Ho,Ho wave!!!

As we reminisce, everyone will have his or her own memories. Mine are the generosity that this event creates and the spirit that everyone shows to make this happen - and I really mean everyone. Thank you for caring, sharing, and giving – until next time, may this year be kind to you.

Many, Many Thanks,
To all of you who attended
